Well, I might as well jump in and follow in the wonderful footsteps of both

ashtoreth, plus it's been ages since I've subjected my muses to a meme like this.

I previously gave permission for a certain person to write my characters in a limited basis in settings separate from mine.

I hereby rescind that permission, as that person is no longer around. Anyone who has access to her character's journals does not have permission to write ANY of my characters, including but not limited to Hsu. And I ask that they remove all mention of my character from that person's journals as soon as possible.

Only the people I currently write with have any kind of permission to use or mention my characters in any stories that they write.

Well, as some of you on Facebook may have seen, I'm in Germany and have been for about two weeks. Not that I've had much time at all to spend a lot of time on the Internet. Yesterday, we moved into our house, but it might take until Friday (or later) for the DSL to be connected. So at the moment, I'm snagging free wi-fi at different places on base...which is also a pain in the ass, as we only have one car at the moment, and I can't wait until hubby gets off his butt and calls about two potential used cars we've seen for sale.

In the meantime, I'm trying to catch up on reading flists -- although I've tried to keep up when I have been able to get on line -- but if there's anything people want me to see/read/whatever, post a link and I'll get there.

I'm also setting up journals over at Insane Journal, and will be RPing over there quite a bit...although I will be keeping, and probably crossposting to and from, my main LJ journals. Many of my 'lesser' pup journals, however, will be transferring fully to IJ to take advantage of the increased user icons for free accounts.

If anyone wants to know my new address and/or phone number, leave a comment...which will be screened. :D

I do have a few emails to reply to, and I'm sorry to those people that I've taken so long to do so, but I will in the next few days.

Now to get my writing mojo back...as with being in transit and with no time to myself for over a month, the pups have for the most part been quiet. I have ideas, just not the inclination to write them down.

Seriously, I did! *g*

Just popping on quickly as it's still crazy as hell around here and will be picking the eldest up from the airport in a couple of hours, but I wanted to get this down.

Now, I rarely dream about my muses...daydream, sure all the time, but actual dreams hardly ever. Well, last night was one of those rare occasions. I even had a couple of [REDACTED]'s guest starring! *g* It was also quite vivid (minds out of the gutter, it was pretty PG-13 rated...a pity, I know), and although it's got kind of fuzzy since waking, I remember the general gist of it, which for me and dreams is fairly unusual.

It started off with Danny being arrested on some trumped up charge that he was framed for. He was thrown into jail and so Hsu storms down there to demand his release. As you can imagine, Hsu was not happy at all with his son being in jail and threatened extreme violence against the guards. Cody (or maybe Roma?) was trying to tell them that it would be A Very Good Idea to listen to Hsu unless they wanted to get hurt. They don't and Hsu lets them feel the full brunt of his temper. This is where it gets fuzzy...at some point Hsu is arrested too and is chained up. Cody and Roma start searching for Danny to get him out, and he isn't behind bars, but in (maybe) a kind of exercise yard, dancing.

And that's when I pretty much woke up, of course! Interesting dream at least, but I loved it for the fact I a) dreamed about the muses and b) remembered a good chunk of it!

Okay, so I haven't even finished this book yet and I'm still reviewing it, but as I know the ending, that fact isn't that important.

The Devil's Brood is the latest book by one of my very favourite writers, Sharon Kay Penman. It is the third in her Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine trilogy and follows When Christ and His Saints Slept and Time and Chance

It picks off where the last left off, about a year after the murder of Thomas Becket and follows the rebellions of Henry's sons and the imprisonment of Eleanor. It is fine writing, and as her books always are, very intricately researched (which is why she takes so long to publish a new one!), and it's also clear that she has taken much of the characterization for Henry, Eleanor, Richard, Geoffrey, John and Phillip from my favourite film, Lion in Winter, not that is detrimental at all...as they were all very fine performances, and such nuances are left to the writer and can hardly be found in historical texts or chronicles.

What strikes me most, and has had me nearly squeeing in parts, is how much Henry reminds me of Hsu...and Hal (the eldest son and co-king, until his untimely death) reminds me of Daniel, and the dynamic between them. Henry clearly loves his children, and he tries to please them, but he also needs to control them...using the titles and lands he gives them as bait to keep them loyal. Hal is promised lands and the revenue from those lands, just not right now. Geoffrey is made Duke of Brittany, but is not given two castles that provide a great amount of income...but is promised when the time is right. This builds their resentment, but Henry just doesn't see it, and is genuinely surprised when they rebel. Because he does everything for their own good...he just doesn't bother finding out what their own good actually is.

On the other hand, Hal is an impulsive, popular, friendly young man who is full of charm, is the darling of the tournament circuit but is as bendable to changes as anyone. He is a spoilt brat who thinks kingship is all party and no responsibility and is easily swayed by those who would see Henry beaten. And Henry is so far into denial about his son's shortcomings until it is nearly too late.

God, but it is a brilliant book...and very relatable to my muses!

First I want to apologize to all those reps I haven't managed to get to in a while. RL has been busy and my writing mojo's been a little off as it is. And it's going to get worse.

Next week, I'm flying home to England for a month to visit family, visit places, and generally have a good time. I will be taking my laptop, but while I might be able to sneak on and do a few reps, especially in the first week, I'll be very slow, so I wouldn't count on anything really (and if I do, treat it like a great surprise! *g*). I may have more luck with short, meta type threads as they don't require as much to get in the mindset.

That said, this week will be slow as well, as my focus will be making sure I've got everything done I need to get done before I leave. That, and worrying about my 20 year old, who will be house sitting while I'm gone. What tags I want to get to this week, and are the priority, will be focused on the two main SLs: Danny's wedding and Hsu's sickness, plus Mark and Alexa's current problem. As I really want them to get to certain points before I leave them for a month.

I apologize to all those I have threads with that are currently dangling, and I promise I will get to them once I have time again.

Over the past few weeks, or even maybe longer, I've slipped away from the little schedule I posted here of letting a muse reply and do prompts on a certain day. Now, I feel totally disorganized and unfocused, and I can't seem to get anything done. Plus now I have a new muse who I need to include. It's also the start of summer break next week, so I'll be busy with trying to entertain a 15 year old and running him here, there, and everywhere. Later on in the summer (mid-July to mid-August) I'm flying home for a visit to England, and while Attila *pets laptop* is coming with me, I really will be too busy to get much done, especially when hubby joins me for the last two weeks. *g*

I have a new muse. He's actually been making rumblings of joining the headspace for a little while nowm, but I've managed to ignore it. However, this weekend I knew I was weakening as I began to think of possible usernames for him (always a bad sign). Then, this morning as I was on the treadmill at the gym, he starts talking, not about anything in particular, but just basically letting me know that he was there and would be listened to.

Thing is, even with all the cramped room in my muse-space, I was thinking about taking another on, but I was really, REALLY hoping for a female. The testosterone is getting too much! But no. It would have also been nice to have a friendly, nice, civilized, and non-egotistical muse join me (although I do think the others scare that type away!). But no.

What do I get instead?

I watched Gordon Ramsey's F Word as they had a piece on...horse's milk.

It is gaining popularity in some European countries, and Gordon test marketed it in a supermarket and his restaurant. It, apparently, tastes like skimmed milk (i.e. kind of tasteless) and has less than half the fat of cow's milk. He also made a rice pudding with horse's milk, which his customers found nice and rich, almost custardy.

He didn't, however, try...or even mention...Hsu's favourite drink 'koumiss'...or fermented mare's milk. *g* Hsu is pleased, though, that the benefits of something he has known for a long time is getting some deserved attention. *lol*

First the mish mash.

I spent a very enjoyable day doing something I hadn't done in a long time, and that was to make an RP date. Manda and I threaded quite a bit between Danny and Cody and their little hook up after Hsu's ruling on Boukun, which is quite intense, and a lot of fun. I had to lock Mr. Grumpy Pants away to stop him bitching.

In between tags, I started work on making my first mood theme. This one for Danny (and Altaaf, if I ever get him a paid account). I think I got the hardest part done, looking for the right pics...although really how hard is it looking at pics of Hrithik? And I haven't even capped Jodhaa Akbar yet! Now just to size, crop and load. After that I just have Hsu, Mark, Stelios, Azazeal, and Ath to go. *sigh*

Did find a very cute pic of Hrithik from his first movie...I'll load it later as it's back on the other puter.

Now for Jodhaa Akbar

I've had this movie since September, and I never got around to watching it. It was worth the wait! Yes, I loved it! Not only for Hrithik and Ash, but the sets and costumes were just beautiful. It is a visually stunning film, with so much detail paid down to the smallest piece of jewelry. I don't know much about that period of the Mughal Empire, other than very basic facts (but it's prompted me to buy a book on Indian history to learn more), so I can't say how historically accurate it is, but I would guess it probably butchered history no worse than the standard Hollywood period film.

Hrithik, as the Mughal Emperor Jalaluddin Muhammed Akbar, was perfect as he can pull off the bearing of a mighty king...and I could picture Hsu in his place in parts (not all as it is a romance story *g*). One scene, he executes his brother by having him thrown from the fortress wall...head first. When he is told his brother survived, he orders him be brought up and thrown off again. Also the elephant taming rocked! Aishwarya plays his Hindi princess bride, Jodhaa Bai who must find her place in the Muslim court while making Akbar work to win her heart and so the people of Hindustan. And she is just so completely beautiful, she is my #1 girl crush right now without a doubt.

There are few songs, considering the length of the movie, and only two dance numbers. One a group of Sufis celebrate their wedding, and another huge piece in praise of the achievements of the Emperor. Only one complaint is the overuse of the 'dramatic chords' at every so-called dramatic moment -- so called because some weren't. It was very cheesy and annoying.

In the deleted scenes they had two wonderful ones with Mahesh Das (Idrajit Sarkar), who through his wit and wiles becomes a Birbal of the Mughal court. They should have kept those scenes in as he was just brilliant as he outwitted Akbar, a vizier (?) and a guard.

First, I had a lovely trip to Washington. There was only one problem, with only two full days there, it really wasn't long enough, but we visited Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens on one day, and then went into Seattle on the other, including lunch at the Space Needle. We also went to the Sci-fi museum, which was really cool. The aquarium was nice, but really not worth the admission price, and we could have spent more time at Pike Place market, but the son was full-on whining by that time. Then Saturday...just before we left...it rained!! It felt so good. *g*

Since then, I've been working, which has sucked.

But that does bring me to that in the Subject line. Yesterday, as I was going around the store, I happened to glimpse a customer's tattoo as he passed me by. It was only a quick glimpse, but I swore it was a Watcher tattoo...so I followed him for a little way and managed to get a better look at it. Indeed, there on his forearm, in the middle of a cross was the Watcher symbol. No, I didn't say anything to him...quite frankly I was too stunned, and he was on his way out of the store by then. But it made my day...although certain muses were snarling in my head for the rest of the day.
