Day 12. An episode you’ve watched more than 5 times

Oh, there's lots.

Highlander: Comes A Horseman/Revelation 6:8 and a few others.

Blakes 7: Orac, Star One, Rumours of Death, Terminal, Orbit, Blake and others.

Robin of Sherwood: Robin Hood and the Sorcerer, The Greatest Enemy, The Sheriff of Nottingham.

The Professionals: Mixed Doubles, No Stone, Operation Susie, Discovered in a Graveyard and others.

Day 11. A show that disappointed you

One show that I tried and tried to get into, but each time it has disappointed me is Robin Hood (the recent BBC series). This despite -- or perhaps partially because of -- my love for Robin of Sherwood, and the wonderful evilness of Keith Allen as the Sheriff, Sam Troughton who I adore from HEX, and especially because of the total sexy moodiness of Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbo[u]rne.

But it is sooooo bad that even those positives are wiped out for me!

Forget all the historic inaccuracies, of which there are many...they do bug me, but I can watch the even less accurate (and deliberately anachronistic) Merlin without being annoyed as much.

When it first aired, my mum recorded several episodes for me...I only managed to get through, probably, the first fifteen minutes of the first episode before I had to turn it off. Since then, I had only watched a few minutes here and there...mostly to catch a glimpse of Guy. Coincidentally, I did watch a full episode yesterday (where Guy and Marian are to be married)...and I spent most of it just laughing at the awfulness of it. The inaccuracies and bad writing just compound on each other and make it just about unwatchable for me.

Yes, for my Richard Armitage fill, I shall stick with Spooks/MI-5. And for my Robin and Merries, I shall definitely stick with RoS (that was far from perfect, but Kip Carpenter did it so much better).

Such a shame because I was hoping for a series that would be an updated RoS...and it falls so much below.

Well, had a busy weekend with my son's Junior ROTC dinner on Friday evening, which was pretty good -- he didn't get any awards he's only just joined, but the dinner was good, and I get to see him all dressed up.

Saturday was a day trip to Ghent in Belgium, a very nice medieval city with canals, castle, and a fine arts museum, but having been to the smaller city, Brugge, before...I have to say it didn't have nearly the charm of there. (And if you want to see what Brugge is like, I highly recommend the Colin Farrell film, In Bruges (yes, it's spelt several different ways :D)).

Yesterday was spent with more unpacking and finding homes for things while the hubby put together a grill and a desk.

So, it's Monday....still without Internet at home (Wednesday is potentially the day, but I'm not holding my breath), but I have some time to myself again. Anyway, on with the meme"

Day 10. A show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

Leverage. For one, it's not my typical kind of show. Second, I had tried to watch the British version, Hu$tle and never really got into it, so I didn't think this would be much better. And third, I've never been much for Tim Hutton, and as previews showed mostly him, I didn't get to see what the other characters were like. And then, I happened to catch an episode! Hutton still doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I do like him in this...but it was the others, namely Eliot, Hardison, and especially Parker that got me hooked within minutes of seeing them interact. For me, those guys make the show...they are original characters and have great chemistry together and are written very well (and not to mention portrayed excellently by their respective actors). And now I am hooked.

There's also, to my shame, America's Next Top Model that [livejournal.com profile] manda_muses got me watching...it is a very, very guilty pleasure.

Day 09. Best scene ever

So hard to decide between two. Both from Highlander.

In "Comes A Horseman" the Jimmy scene. It's just perfectly played by Peter Wingfield and Adrian Paul, and it was a stunning scene when I first watched it (and enjoying seeing part of the 'real' Methos) and it still is.

My second best once is in "Revelation 6:8"...and really the whole episode is worth it, but while I love the sword fight between Silas/Caspian/Duncan and Kronos/Duncan, and I love when they free Caspian from his cell, and many others...my favourite is when Kronos tells Methos he sent Silas and Caspian after Duncan. They're standing above Cassandra's cage and just the way Valentine Pelka changes from fake empathy to smugness to cold blooded really sums up why I love Kronos so much, plus at the end, you see Methos shaken, but he still covers it.

But really nearly every scene between Methos and Kronos are wonderfully acted...great chemistry.

Day 08. A show everyone should watch

I don't have one. Really, I will tell people about shows I like but I don't go around saying that everyone should watch them. If they want to watch it fine, if not, fine.

Yeah, I'm a great salesperson!

However, everyone should watch every film Gerard Butler has ever made! *ggg*

Day 06. Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Okay, so I'm cheating on this and picking three four TV shows.

Blakes 7 My favourite episode is "Blake" the final episode of the series. While there are many other great episodes ("Orac", "Star One", "Rumours of Death" and "Terminal" among my favourites), "Blake" was one hell of a way for a show to go out...and it has made the series memorable for many people. It ends with an infamous shoot out between our heroes, the Federation, with the appearance of the long missing Blake triggering it all. Blake is killed by Avon (our lead hero -- a term used VERY loosely), gunfire erupts and by the end four of main characters are killed...ending with Avon surrounded by Federation troops. He raised his gun, smiled....credits roll to the sound of blasters going off. BRILLIANT!

Robin of Sherwood...because I've neglected this show in previous mentions, and it is one of my favourites. The best episode is "The Greatest Enemy" where the Sheriff finally catches up with Robin...he's surrounded and down to his last arrow. After shooting it deliberately high, the Sheriff's soldiers shoot him down. But that, as memorable as it was, is not the reason it's my favourite. It's the first, and only one of two, where my favourite character...Nasir...gets any real character development, and after seeing him take down at least seventeen soldiers before being captured, we learn that he was once a member of the radical Islamic sect, the Nizari Ismaili...more commonly known as the Assassins.

The Professionals...yes, another show I wanted to mention. My favourite ep is "Discovered in a Graveyard" where Doyle is shot in his flat and very nearly dies. Meanwhile Bodie is hunting down whoever did this to him. If you haven't noticed, my favourite episodes nearly always involve one or more of the main characters being killed or nearly killed However, Torchwood SO over did this!

But my very favouritist episodes is a two-parter...from Highlander. I wonder if anyone can guess! *g*
Of course, it's "Comes A Horseman"/"Revelation 6:8"...we learn Methos' past, and it's very, very cool. We are introduced to the best and baddest K'Immie of them all, Kronos. And two very lovely and endearing K'Immies, Caspian and Silas, to round of the Four Horsemen. Really, easily the two finest episodes of the entire series. Methos, playing as only he knows how...to go with the winner. Kronos and his virus and monkeys...and just wonderful menace. The best sword fight, EVER! The only dubious bit is the SFX for the double Quickening, especially the spirally bit...a bit wtf? but excellent.

Day 05. A show you hate

Well, as I've been discussing with [livejournal.com profile] beccadg, I've gone right off Torchwood because of the way "Children of Earth" turned out.

While I do like some reality shows, usually the job related ones, I do hate the ones that involve competition, as for the most part they are so contrived. Like American Idol, sure it gives someone a chance of being a successful singer, but it is so managed, and IMO, they are then owned lock, stock and barrel by AI and forced to produce bland music. I do, however, enjoy watching the audition portions...just for the lulz.

Then again, it might also have something to do with the fact that I know I could easily find myself sucked in by such shows....as what happened with America's Next Top Model.

On the whole, though, there aren't any shows I can think of that will make me change the channel immediately because I hate it so much. Shows have more of a tendency to annoy me more than active hate. I don't care for most US sitcoms, finding them mostly just unfunny.
jayes_musings: (B7 -- trust me I'm a minion)
Day 04. Your favorite show ever

Tough question. One show that will always be dear in my heart is Blakes 7; it was, really, my first fandom...even before I knew what fandom was. I wrote fanfic for it and with my friend [livejournal.com profile] gmnoonie fangirled discussed every episode. Yes, it had hokey special effects, wobbly sets, often dubious acting, and a budget of 5.49 GBP, but the storylines and writing were wonderful. And Avon was my first fannish crush.

However, when it comes down to it, my favourite show ever, has to be Highlander: The Series. I loved the original movie (and the less said about the subsequent ones the better), but it was with the series that I really became hooked into it and the fandom, despite the fact that I never had any great liking for Duncan MacLeod. The entire mythology of the show, as well as the history elements, have long inspired me, and now...more than, what?, twelve years since it ended, it is still my primary fandom. I RP OCs that have grown and grown well beyond what I could have hoped from them. It's just stuck with me, and I still love it.
jayes_musings: (LiW -- Henry I've known)
Day 03. Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

There are two, even if I've only seen three episodes of one of them. Spartacus: Blood and Sand was great and I was really getting hooked into it before I left the US. Given it's content, I doubt they'll show it on AFN here (but I can hope)...if not, I'm definitely getting hold of the DVDs when it comes out.

The other one took me a little by surprise as it's not my usual watching fare. White Collar was absolutely brilliant, and I quickly found myself loving all the regular characters, and not just Neal. It has such smooth charm and great writing, giving great development between them all...plus nice little surprises which turn tropes on their heads. And I love that. Plus, of course, Neal is very easy on the eyes...which never, ever hurts. *g* And I just saw that AFN are going to be showing it...so I get to see Season 1 again!
jayes_musings: (Leverage -- Parker 20lbs of crazy)
Day 02. A show that you wish more people were watching

Hmmm, this is a tough one because I'm very much of the opinion that people should watch what they want rather than do it because everyone else is.

That said, I do like pimping certain shows and though I don't expect any one to listen to my recommendations, it's nice to share what you like. So, the shows that I like to share my fangirling of are Being Human and Leverage. Being Human is just the coolest, and I'm in total lust with Mitchell *g*...although I have heard an American version is planned, which makes me nervous. And I just have so much love for Leverage...it's not my typical kind of show, but the characters just work so well together that it's addictive!
jayes_musings: (Gerry -- srs bznz)
And so to begin.

Day 01. A show that should have never been canceled.

This is actually a fairly difficult one for me, as with many shows that I like, I still find they end at the right time...before they get past their prime and/or jump the shark. So I don't get too upset when a favourite show is cancelled. Maybe it's being British when even the best shows are sometimes given a limited run.

That said, I do wish there had been more of Blake's 7, and I wish the production company for Robin of Sherwood had not gone bankrupt, and there would have been more episodes of that. While I was sad to see the last of Farscape, I do wonder how they might have pulled another full season out of it. Even my perennial favourite, Highlander, had IMO gone as far as it probably should have...and even then, maybe a little too far.

No, one of the only shows I can think of that shouldn't have been cancelled (or given the ending that it had) was Life on Mars (UK), and I'm not even in the fandom. While I do like Ashes to Ashes...I think LoM could have easily gone on for one more season before tying up Sam's loose ends.
