30 Days of Meme -- Day 11

Day 11. A show that disappointed you

One show that I tried and tried to get into, but each time it has disappointed me is Robin Hood (the recent BBC series). This despite -- or perhaps partially because of -- my love for Robin of Sherwood, and the wonderful evilness of Keith Allen as the Sheriff, Sam Troughton who I adore from HEX, and especially because of the total sexy moodiness of Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbo[u]rne.

But it is sooooo bad that even those positives are wiped out for me!

Forget all the historic inaccuracies, of which there are many...they do bug me, but I can watch the even less accurate (and deliberately anachronistic) Merlin without being annoyed as much.

When it first aired, my mum recorded several episodes for me...I only managed to get through, probably, the first fifteen minutes of the first episode before I had to turn it off. Since then, I had only watched a few minutes here and there...mostly to catch a glimpse of Guy. Coincidentally, I did watch a full episode yesterday (where Guy and Marian are to be married)...and I spent most of it just laughing at the awfulness of it. The inaccuracies and bad writing just compound on each other and make it just about unwatchable for me.

Yes, for my Richard Armitage fill, I shall stick with Spooks/MI-5. And for my Robin and Merries, I shall definitely stick with RoS (that was far from perfect, but Kip Carpenter did it so much better).

Such a shame because I was hoping for a series that would be an updated RoS...and it falls so much below.

Aaah. I've wondered about that series, but never checked it out. Sounds like I don't need to bother. I mean I have enough trouble watching Merlin.

Merlin is...okay, although not something I go out of my way to watch, but I will. Robin Hood I just can't even do that, such a pity because there are some good points like the actors I mentioned.

Well, you do notice I don't play guy, right? I just use his evol sexiness for my OC.

One ep you might like is the one that a girl befriends him in jail and dies trying to help him. She's actually a decent actress. The woman who played Isabella is so over the top, she makes Polly Walker look shy in Rome.

Keith Allen and Richard A have some wonderfully nasty and snarky scenes. Check out the clips on YouTube, don't watch the whole thing.

Yes, I know...but I also want to see his evol sexiness in action! *g* Btw, I saw the first part of North and South last night...some very nice moody sexiness from him there...and a much better show.

Wow, that is quite a feat! LOL

Youtube is beyond my capabilities, atm, but I may do that....but however, much I do think those two are wonderful (and I've liked Keith Allen since the 80s when he was part of the Comic Strip)...and I have liked some of their snark...I do still think the snark between Nic Grace and Robert Addie from RoS so much sharper.

Wait, Richard Armitage was in "North and South"????

Never mind, I see it's not the TV movie from the 80's, lol. For one I was going to say I didn't think he was that old...

That's what I thought when I first heard about it, but no, it was made a couple of years ago (?).

Btw, have Internet now...no more cafes...so, I should be back to hitting tags regularly....I've not forgotten our two threads, if you still want to continue them.

[identity profile] anann73.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I really wigged out at first, lol, since I watched those when they first came on. He would have been a boy.

Woo hoo! Yes, I would definitely like to. Shall we continue them in IJ? Btw, Alex mentioned to Tess a threesome with Daniel and she is all for the idea. ;) of course I guess they need to shag in their thread first, lol.

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
YAY! Ok, I'll set up a post on IJ to continue the threads where they are. And yes, Dan is all for a threesome too, once he and Tess are, er, shagged out. *g*

[identity profile] anann73.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. Probably just a link to the LJ posts would be fine.

I think Tess and Alex are headed his way at the party in IJ...

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, was going to do that. Need to make a journal for Dmitri on IJ, though.

And Danny's tagged their thread. :D

[identity profile] anann73.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, yeah that might help. ;)

Huzzah. I wonder if we should do Danny/Alex/Tess. I mean do we want to do a tagging order? I guess it's best that way.

There is a scene where the Sheriff kills a guy who was going to kill Guy (or was it the other way around?) and they think he is trying to kill him, for a minute. They wind up bowing to each other, and their body language and expressions are so funny and sarcastic, they don't have to say a word.
