Colour me highly amused

by all the wailing and teeth gnashing that I've seen following the Beeb's announcement that David Tennant is stepping down as Ten after the specials. Jeez, anyone would think he's the only actor to have played the Doctor. Hello? He's done four seasons (plus the upcoming specials) which is a pretty good run, and while I think Eccleston's tenure was too short, that's the way of the show.

I'm looking forward to seeing who the new Doctor will be, though I'm not sure who *cough*Michael Fassbender*cough* would make an excellent Doctor. *g*

OMG! If they got Fassy *I* would watch Dr. Who RELIGIOUSLY! And I've only seen it a few times for some older versions on PBS and was not too enthused. ;)

I think Fassy would make a wonderful Doctor, especially in an Azazeal-ish way. Smooth, sophisticated, but with a devilish grin and that Irish lilt. *g*

I grew up watching DW, and old Who is still my favourite as corny and as cheap as it was. I just get so very amused by New Who fans who have fits over things that have always happened on the show, like having a new Doctor. And I won't even go into the shipping wars with his companions, which just makes me want to headdesk.

I think he would be fabulous. I didn't have the benefit of early Who as you did. Here in Iowa, it was just the show that came on after Red Dwarf! *g*

BTW, did you get the last rep that Faelyn did for Azazeal? Hopefully it was ok.

It's a British institution, everybody of a certain age remembers hiding behind the couch from the man in the awful, cheesy costume. Ah, good times!

Although I dread the stampede of fangirls if this dream comes true. I kind of like Fassy still being somewhat of a secret known to just a few. *g*

Ok? OKAY? Let's just say I nearly had to take a second shower...a cold one...after reading that this morning.

Btw...love the icon, although you're not.

I prefer Fassy be kept our little secret. I stand a much better chance of casting him as Nikos Cristodoulakis (see the memories tag under "Tango Cattivo" in this LJ) when it comes time! *g*

Oh, good! I was hoping that it would turn out well. And the Daemon was ok with it, too? Of course he would probably be since he is the one being *cough* attended to by Faelyn! ;))

Oh, thank you! ;)))

Oooh, I shall have to check that tag out. :D And yes, I'm all for keeping him between us. *g*

Yes, I think you can safely assume he was very pleased. *g*

Glad to know I'm not the only one feeling this way. This week has apparently made me a "bad" fangirl. I didn't wail over Heroes not following fanon and now I'm not heartbroken over Tennant moving on. Truth be told, I'm very excited about a new Doctor - and while I won't get my prayer for DoctorDonna - I'm hoping for a less "ferrety" Doctor.

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll sit together here in the bad fangirl corner. I've always liked the fact that DW is able to change the lead character and still continue strongly. It's one of best aspects of the show. (As for Heroes, while there are some things I certainly don't like about this season...I hate it when fangirls bitch when a show doesn't follow their fantasies.)

Even if there's no DoctorDonna (how cool would that be!)...a female Doctor would great anyway. And if I can't have my own dream Doctor...and he must be male, let him be short, fat and bald. Like there's any chance of that happening.

YAY for not being alone! Exactly, that is one of the beauties of that show. I mean, we're going to watch CSI die because Grissom's gone. Tons of shows have died because of losing their lead. DW goes on and on. (Again with the exactly. You don't have to like it but the tears and anger at the writers for "doing it wrong"? And I rp the ship being bitched about)

I would LOVE a female. I heard rumour that at one point they were considering Jennifer Saunders from AbFAb, which would rock. I am so with you on that. I'd love to see them play it to a character actor, and once more avoid the romance thing as they did with Donna.

Well, in that case, my vote would go to Val, because he can do the whole range from sweet to tough to being quite evil.

Henry Ian Cusick. He's Brit, he's hot. He's love. Sex on two legs. Damn.

Heh, not sure if I feel deprived or blessed by the fact I haven't had to listen to any wailing and teeth gnashing. The people who've mentioned it on my flist have ranged from indifferent to downright gleeful, no one pissed or depressed. I definitely think Eccleston's tenure was too short. As far as New Who Doctors are concerned I'm still in morning for Nine. But, my all time favorite is and likely always will be Four. I say likely, but not absolutely because Captain Jack Harkness has easily become my favorite Companion of all time, and possibly my favorite Doctor Who character period. If Jack can come along and change a landscape built in me over more than 25 years, I can't rule out some new Doctor coming along and changing things again. B-)

Oh, I've come across it, and not just on fandom sites, but on comments on news sites too. Comments have ranged from people wailing to threats against David Tennant. I would have loved more of Eccleston, and I definitely prefer him over Tennant, although my fave will always be Five, with Four a close second. Yep, a different Doctor is how it's supposed to be...I just hope they make him (or her!) significantly different in personality so it's not like they're trying to copy Ten.

Turlough will always be the Companion of all time for me.

Oh, I've come across it, and not just on fandom sites, but on comments on news sites too.

Hmm, on the one hand it did pop up on my flist after I mentioned it, though not seriously. The girl is a Brit who knows how the institution works. She just also happens to be a David Tennant fan. On the other hand I haven't visited any news sites to see comments made at them.

Comments have ranged from people wailing to threats against David Tennant.

*Frowns.* Wailing is one thing, but threatening David isn't right.

...my fave will always be Five, with Four a close second.

Heh, I had trouble getting into Five when I loved Four so much, and I don't think it helped any I always thought of Peter as Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small first.

I just hope they make him (or her!) significantly different in personality so it's not like they're trying to copy Ten.

*Nods.* I'm not sure I'm ready for a her, but since I pointed out to someone Time Lords can change gender I have no moral high ground to stand on.

Turlough will always be the Companion of all time for me.

*Giggles.* Sooo not surprised. I never much liked him, but. *Shrugs.* My Companion of All Time used to be K-9. My top two Companions of All Time are 51st century boys. :D

LOL, part of the appeal of DW is that you have multiple Doctors. Those who are all wanksty over the change need to realize the pattern and move on.

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. It's what makes the show what it is...and why it's lasted so long.
