That's the one word I'd use to describe ROTK. Saw it yesterday in Luxembourg (lovely cinema with English films with French/Dutch subtitles).
The whole film was awesome, and I'd agree with most people I've heard that it is the best one (although FOTR will remain my fave for Boromir *g*). Favourite bits in ROTK...the Witchking (yum!) and the army of the Dead...those guys just blew me away. Also my soft spot for Faramir/David Wenham is growing. I admit to tearing up a couple of times, especially towards the end, but I think it was more to do with the fact that the epic is over rather than any great emotion for the characters. However, one character I really warmed to that had left me indifferent in the previous films was Sam, which surprised me.
And yeah PJ changed stuff, left stuff out, but the film didn't suffer at all for their loses (not that I'm a Tolkein purist/fan in the least).
