I enjoyed making these icons, although it was tougher than I thought it would be. The inspiration theme was Seasons and for the most part I took a literal meaning to it and did a few to represent each season. Some were easier than others, but it was a lot of fun...and going through photos of Hrithik is never a chore!

For every season, turn, turn, turn )

Well, I've been back...nearly a week, and I'm getting ready for my oldest son to pay me a visit as well as the hubby returning from that unpleasant place that he's been for six months. So, I thought I'd share some of my holiday pics and bore you all (especially if you've already seen them on my FB)! *g*

Edinburgh to Bedfordshire. Lots of pics. )
jayes_musings: (Fassy -- smoking hot)
Arrived safe and sound in Edinburgh yesterday. Had a great view of the Forth Bridge as the plane came into land, which was cool as, sadly, Edinburgh is pretty much all I'll get to do of Scotland on this visit...schedule is way too packed for anything else.

Seeing as by the time we got done with the airport and picked up the rental car, it was pushing mid afternoon, so we are doing the city centre today. Instead we found a cinema and watched X-Men: First Class. Brilliant! Okay, I knew Michael Fassbender would be great as Erik Lensherr/Magneto but he was even better than that! That man can do intensity, or what. Sure, there were some corny/stretching the suspension of disbelief moments (a hovering SR-71, wtf?), but nowhere near enough to spoil the rest. And there is a great cameo appearance in there as well!
jayes_musings: (Graphics -- England bloody bit longer)
Tomorrow I'm heading out to the UK again. This time, first stop is Edinburgh...where I'll hopefully meet up with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] phantomas. Then I shall meander down into northern England, stopping at Vindolanda Roman Fort along Hadrian's Wall and then the Lake District. Then a stop off to let the kid blow off steam at Blackpool's Pleasure Beach (cheesy but hopefully fun) before we head to Yorkshire, then down south to 'home' and a visit to Mum's and a family wedding.

Two weeks in all, and I'll try to check in if the wi-fi fees aren't too outrageous.

Like I said in my last post, there wasn't much positive to say about "Kites" except the delicious eye candy!

Onto the prettehs....lots of prettehs. )

Okay, to keep up with at least semi-regularly updating this journal.

I'm going to give reviews/thoughts/opinions on movies that I've seen recently (or at least the ones I remember!). So today's is going to be Bollywood.

Yes, I'm still a total Hrithik fangirl, and most of my Bolly watching involves him...because, well...eye candy is very nice. However, I did watch one without him in that I'd been wanting to see since I heard about it.

So it's been ages since I've posted anything here, and even longer for something that wasn't a meme or birthday wish. So, I thought I need to start posting something more worthwhile more regularly, just to occasionally remind people that I'm still alive round these parts.

I was thinking of just doing a huge update post, but that's rather daunting both for me and for the flist. So, I'll give the briefest on what's been going on in the past few months, with a handful of pics to boot.

-- Back in November, we took a trip to Rome, and I totally loved it...right down to the taxi driver taking us along the Via Appia to come into the city.

-- Hubby deployed in January, and he's still gone.

-- I made and uploaded a new mood theme featuring my favourites.

-- I started working on the novel...which ground to a halt for needed research, and I'm trying to get back into again.

-- I had a visit from one of my oldest friends, [livejournal.com profile] gmnoonie and as I was showing her around Trier, I went flying down some steps and sprained my ankle pretty badly. So, her first time in Germany and her tour guide has her leg propped up. But we did get to see "The King's Speech*" in Luxembourg.

-- Then over my son's Spring Break, we took a trip to the UK, and after having an all too brief visit with [livejournal.com profile] gmnoonie, we spent a few days in North Wales, where I had a great time doing some research for Mark's novel. It was really good to get a real feel for the landscape. We also went to Portmeirion, also known as The Village in the '60s show "The Prisoner"

Have some photos )

Future plans are meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] franzi1981 on Saturday for a day of fun in Cologne!! And in June, me and the kiddo are heading to Edinburgh and then driving down England, in a very indirect route, until I eventually reach my mum's house. Stops will include Alnwick Castle (aka Hogwarts), Vindolanda Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall, Lake District, Blackpool, and York.

Then the hubby should be home!

[*] Will be making a post of some recent films I've seen here soon, as well. Gotta keep the momentum going!

5 characters you think were created to be disliked but you really like anyway.

I could do this meme based on 'Highlander' alone, however, I'll be diverse.

Kronos -- Highlander: The Series. Really, enough said.

Bilis Manger -- Torchwood. He's old, he's not sexy, and he's bad, bad, bad (and creepy)...but he's compelling.

Herrick -- Being Human. The evil vampire with plans to dominate humans. He's appears just so...ordinary and average, but a real bastard and I love that.

Brick Top -- Snatch. There's nothing redeeming about this man. He's a sleezy, brutal, nasty, unattractive bully of a pig farmer. And yet he makes the film.

Obadiah Hakeswell -- Sharpe. Utterly, utterly evil. Brilliantly played by the late, great Pete Postlethwaite (hey, that rhymes!) not to make him likable...you still hated him, but so watchable that you were glad to see him killed...and sad at the same time.

ETA: I think it's worth noting that for 4 of these 5 it certainly isn't based on the actor's look, and that in every case for me, the actor put something into the character that in someway connected with me to make them very real and something quite human in them (even if some aren't human). I do go for the fictional bad guys, often for the sexiness factor, but these (and others I didn't list) manage to be surprising and three-dimensional.
