FUJIGAS! FUJIGAS!
Jan. 12th, 2004 01:43 pmHad a busy weekend. Saturday was a very long day. We went up to Koblenz, most famous because it's where the Rhein and Mosel rivers meet. Anyway, after wandering around the old part of the city for a few hours, and it's especially lovely along the river (must be gorgeous in summer), we easily found the Sporthalle where the Indoor Motorbike Trials were being held.
If you don't know what this is...they are incredible tests of motorbike skills. In a small arena, there are several obstacles set up which the rider must complete. These include balancing the bike on nothing more than the width of the bike, jumps from dead starts and other feats that motorbikes were never invented for. There is a penalty foul points system...where if the rider puts down a foot, he gets 1 point, if he does it more than 3 times, he fails the obstacle, and if he falls or otherwise goes out of bounds, it's 5 points. The name of the game is, of course, to score the least amount of points.
This particular competition is one in a series of events around (mostly) Europe and Hong Kong, which decides the world champion. I need not mention these guys are GOOD. Saturday's competition was terrific, coming down to the last race between current World Champion, Adam Raga of Spain and Takahisa Fujinama (aka Fujigas) of Japan. And Fujigas won, what I think was his first event. It'll do him the world of good in the Championship...and he's such a cool character...who was exhuberant in victory. I was so happy and pleased that he won.
Next year though, we're going to try and get to the one in Sheffield...because as good as this one was, we lacked any real commentary and at least the Sheffield one we will understand what's being said.

Also, yesterday...we spent the day cleaning out the basement...thrill. But in the evening we went to (finally) see Kill Bill, Vol. 1. Ohhh..much goodness. Now if only some theater around here will show Timeline, I would be a happy bunny.
