Have just finished watching this movie. Brilliant! One of the best I have seen this year (the other being The Pianist). I rented this because I'd heard it was good, but mostly because Sean Bean has a small role in it. Briefly it is about a future society in which feelings and emotions have been outlawed and an elite law enforcement unit called the Grammaton Cleric track down any and all who find ways to express emotion and avoid their feeling supressant medication. Of course, one of the Cleric (Christian Bale) misses a dose and begins feeling for the first time. The film is a blend of 1984 and The Matrix and on several levels reminded me of The Prisoner (the search for Father/search for Number One) and Blake's 7 (the use of mass supressants). And of course the parallels to dictatorships and other brutal regimes, which this new order is supposed to have done away with...along with war. The DVD cover says, "Forget The Matrix!" and yeah, this is much more chilling...and believable.
