Movie: Eden Lake

I heard this film was quite brutal, and I don't mind that, and of course, I'm eager to check out new Michael Fassbender fare.

It is indeed brutal, and people with weak stomachs probably shouldn't watch this. When it comes to movies, I have a pretty much cast iron constitution, but there were a couple of parts that were very, very difficult to watch.

The premise is that Steve (Fassy) takes his girlfriend, Jenny, out to Eden Lake for a romantic weekend and to pop the question. Trouble occurs when they are harassed by a gang of teenagers. As Steve tries to reason with them -- and act a bit macho to impress Jenny -- things go rapidly downhill as the teenagers proceed to terrorize them. They attack Steve and hunt Jenny, and what should have been a wondered getaway turns into a fight for survival.

One of the most harrowing scenes, especially for Fassyfans, is when the teens have Steve tied up with barbed wire and choking on a chain. He's clearly been well worked over, and the teen leader bullies his minions into taking turns stabbing him. One shoves a box cutter into Steve's mouth, slicing his tongue.

While Steve gets free and reunites with Jenny, his wounds are so severe that while she goes off to find help, he dies. Jenny discovers this when the teens catch her and she is tied to a tree stump with Steve's body. The kids are pouring gasoline over them and force this other boy to light a match. Within moments, Steve's body is burning. Jenny escapes when the flames burn through her ropes, but the boy is then doused by the thugs and set alight.

Jenny finally escapes and reaches the nearest village where she collapses. She awakens in a house with several concerned people hovering over her. She soon realizes these adults are the kids' parents, and let's just say the acorns didn't fall far from the trees.

There are problems with the movie. There are times when suspension of disbelief is tried, and you think why didn't they (Steve and Jenny) just do this or not do that, and they would have got away. Some of the coincidences were a little contrived as well, but in all it's a very good thriller, mostly because of the realism. It leaves you with the feeling this could really happen. There's no monster, no supernatural enemy, just a bunch of kids who are, like too many kids today, total little thugs who get nothing but enjoyment from harassing people, and aren't controlled by their parents.

The top two could easily be passed for Stelios and Caroline, except the top one, her hair needs to be longer and curlier, of course. All I can say is that poor Stelios is not going to know what hit him! If he thought the Persians gave him a workout, I think he is going to be very surprised at his French Fae paramour! ;-)

You know, they really needed to be a little nicer to poor Steve in this movie! :P

Yeah, I was wishing her hair was a least longer and she could pass nicely for Caroline. And Stelios says, he's more than ready for such a work out.

They did, it's like they took glee and how nasty they could be to him.

Well then, I suppose that Mr. Hot Spartan needs to get to satifying his lady and not leave her hanging! LOL! Hehe, as I mentioned on the phone, I sort of like the idea that their first time wasn't entirely this blissfully, the earth moved, and the heavens wept as they exploded in mutual and long deserved orgasms. Talk about suspension of disbelief if they had! *g* I think that is sort of a recurring thing for them, destroying their environments or the sex not always being perfect. Granted, just as every time isn't going to be perfect, it certainly won't always be a disaster, either!

Isn't Greece prone to earthquakes btw? I think it's time for a real progressive longitudinal vibratory disturbance while they are there in Greece. Might be something interesting storyline-wise. We could even have it while they are in bed - just so that the Earth really does figuratively and literally move!

Yes, he will get to that later *g* Yeah, it works that it was less than perfect...and more believeable that Caroline was less than satisfied. Stelios is good but he isn't superhuman LOL! I think mutual destruction of their environment and water will be a continuing feature with these two. Like Mark and Alexa, these two have too much fun to take anything, especially sex, too seriously.

Yes, it is prone to earthquakes (it was after all, the primary cause of Sparta's downfall). Oh yes, I think it could well happen....jeez the Spartan kills an Immortal on holyground and causes a volcanic eruption...has sex with a Fae and they cause an earthquake. LOL!!!

Yes, I would definitely agree; there is nothing quite like the post virgin-coitus letdown! I have no doubt that Stelios is very good - but no, he isn't superhuman, and having her writhing in blissful ecstasy, especially during the first time, just is not believable at all. That is not to say that she is at all sorry! Quite the opposite!

Oooh! Sounds like a plan then! LOL! No wonder I want to give Stelios the middle name of Property Damage! Oh...and btw, I LOVE your icon!!! :)
