How Dickensian

I never knew!

St. Mary's Hospital and now an eldery rest home was once the Luton Union Workhouse.

(Scroll down to After 1834 for some photos)

My actual hometown of Dunstable had a workhouse too, which is mentioned in Oliver Twist. I did know that.

Wow...that's great. It's always cool to find out stuff about your history and all.

I know. It is cool! And I'm going to have to tell my mum and give her a rough time about it. *g*

Hee. Isn't it great learning those things. I learned stuff like this about my own hometown years ago. I love sharing it at parties when others are all... I was raised in the most expensive home in blahblahblah county and my family came over in the Mayflower.

Oh it is, although when I tell people they usually come back at me with "How do you know all this stuff!?"

Admittedly, my hometown has a ton of history going back to Roman times, with a few significant events happening there, and my friend's mum was...is the town historian, but Luton (the larger neighbouring town) never really took my interest.*g*

I was watching a Halloween special once about the "Burning Times" and they were going on about this village in Germany where they killed like 19 priests and all the women and children or something. Silly me, I made a joke about it being where I was born.

Yep, it was.

I feel the same.
