How I spent my (mini) vacation...
It was my birthday this weekend (and thanks to all of you who sent me birthday wishes as I wasn't around to thank you all on time *g*), and my hubby got me an amazing birthday present...having a day's lesson learning to drive a rally car.
It was AWESOME!!! And the fact that in the morning it absolutely poured with rain (plus thunderstorm) didn't dampen it at all...in fact it made it even more fun...except for the fact that no one could see more than about a six-inch square area out of the car because it was so steamed up. It did clear up in the afternoon, but the track was still wet, so lots of opportunity for skids, powerslides, and handbrake turns (and
phantomas it gave me a real Bodie and Doyle buzz *ahem*)

The start of the day on the skid pan learning handbrake turns and powerslides. Note the car (a Ford Escort MkII circa approx 1980?) and how nice and clean it is...

Doing figure 8s with only the handbrake

Now the powerslides and kicking up rocks. This was when it was chucking it down.

Strange thing, everyone doing the class had the same inane grin on their face after having a go.

The pub where we had lunch...no alcohol though.

After lunch and just getting ready to do a practice lap of the 'Stage'.

My timed 'Stage'. It was about a mile, with two patches of very slippery concrete. I did it in 1:43 which was good (and not last!!) for the wet.

The end of the day and a pose. :D

And the car at the end of the day...note the muddy brown colour as opposed to the bright yellow at the start. It also needed a bit of work as it was smoking and leaking fluid for quite sometime.
And the video clip of me on the skid pan.

The next day we went to the Milton Keynes shopping mall for Collectormania 10. Always fun to wander around and see the people and stalls. I did get one autograph from David Wenham (Faramir), although he wasn't doing any posed photos I did get to tell him how much I was looking forward to seeing "300" which he's in alongside Gerry Butler (though I didn't mention that GB was the reason I so looking forward to it :D).

David Wenham

Juliet Landau (who along with David Wenham was the most popular there.

Peter Graves (from the original Mission: Impossible tv show and Airplane)

George Lazenby

Kenny Baker (R2D2) and Dave Prowse (Darth Vader). Sunday they had a lot of Star Wars people there.

And perhaps my favourite...a very friendly Dalek!

You sure do get to meet a lot of famous people!

Oh yeah, really meet them. *giggle* Trying to take a photo through the crowd...or in DW's case the few seconds it took for him to sign the picture and me to mention "300". *g*

Hehe. Sounds like my mom and me with Adrian Paul at the last HL con we went to. We had to hand someone else our pictures and they'd give them to him and we'd shuffle past like an assembly line. Mom managed to tell him her favorite episode was one he directed ("Homeland") while I just stood there struck dumb by hotness. She did get to talk to Elizabeth Gracen a lot in the bathroom though, LOL. (Forgive if I have related this story before.)
Remind me...
You are on the wrong side of the car? What do you think you are? A postal worker? *giggles*
Man, that looked like fun. Would have been even more awesome if it was a HumVee.... Did that in the military and that was Wicked cool!
And Lucky dog, meeting David. I'm jealous!
Re: Remind me...
Am so not on the wrong side...I'm right! Everyone else's wrong.
*lol* For a nearly 30 yr old car, it did very well, despite smoking quite a bit at the end of the day! It also goes through two sets of tyres a day! But yeah, HumVee would be very cool!
Hehehehe... He was lovely :)
Re: Remind me...
and did you know HEY is for horses. *snickers*
