Busy day today...
Sep. 23rd, 2003 09:34 amHubby left to go downrange for two months. Had to drop him off on base looking really cool in his desert BDUs, then he and the other guys will be going down to Ramstein AB and catching a flight eastwards. As usual I'm forever grateful that he is in the USAF and enlisted (the service that (99% of the time) sends it's officers to the front lines to get shot at). Still, it should be an interesting deployment for him...and it will be the first time in 20 years service that he will be carrying a firearm with him everywhere. A little unnerving, but I'd sooner him being able to defend himself if the situation arose where he had to.
Also today, after 8 months waiting the new couch should be delivered today! This ongoing saga would be almost be amusing if it wasn't so frustrating. After 6 months I was told that the couch hadn't made it onto to the container for shipment from the States, but lo and behold AAFES had one down at Vogelweh Army Base about an hour and a half drive from here. But somehow this would take 3 weeks to get here.
1) If they had one at Vogelweh, why did I have to order mine from the US?
2) 3 WEEKS!!???
Needless to say the 3 weeks was rather optimistic and when I went to the store to check up on it...over a month later (I'd been on vacation), it wasn't there. They hadn't even shipped it from down the road. So another 3 weeks later, and I finally get a call that it's in. And now I'm at home all day today waiting for delivery. I just hope that it comes....is in perfect condition...and is the right one. Because I dread to think of the problems in getting an exchange.
Yes, my faith in AAFES, never very high, is sorely tested now.
And I have to make a decision. I feel like skipping a class this week, I need a break...and I haven't missed one at all this term. So, instead I'm going to go to the movies. The question is do I skip Wednesday and see 28 Days Later or skip Friday and see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? I really want to see them both and work-wise it won't matter which day I skip. Suggestions anyone?
