The Yearly Round-Up

So, the Holidays are over, the decorations are put away, hubby is back at work, and #2 is back in college....it must be time for my annual post apologizes for not posting more over the previous year and promising to post more in the coming year....and likely failing again.*ggg*

(Okay, so I started this post over a week ago now, so I'm already behind on my attempt to post once a week, at least, but I'm still going to try. Maybe I'll even get two posts done this week....yeah, sure!)

I'll also be updating from Dreamwidth more often and crossposting to LJ, seeing as LJ is becoming ever more unstable and vulnerable to ever more regular attacks. Okay, so the crossposting didn't work...pretty sure I know why, and I'll work on that later, maybe.

2012

So first, last year was busy with lots of travel. Let's see there was six trips to England.

-- The first was back in March when I went to visit [livejournal.com profile] gmnoonie before she had her surgery.
-- Spring break in April we went to Ireland, stayed just outside of Dublin and toured all around there and the south. It was how I expected, wet and very green and pretty.
-- Then I went to the UK again in May(?) to visit Roman sites in Cirencester, Chedworth, Caerleon (in Wales), and Wroxeter before I again went to spend a few days with Noonie as she began her chemo treatment. Had a great time at the Roman sites indulging my love and doing research.
-- The next trip was a quickie to visit my mum and to see the Olympic Torch be carried through my hometown. It was early and over in seconds, but I got to see it, probably a once in a lifetime chance.
-- Then, the hubby and I took a quick trip down to Garmisch in the Alps, which is nearly as gorgeous in the summer as it is in the winter, and this time we had one day of decent weather to go up to the summit of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain.
-- Then came another trip to England, courtesy of the USAF as hubby had a class at RAF Mildenhall and me and #2 tagged along. We finished that up with a couple of days, and the Olympic opening ceremony, at my mum's.
-- Labor Day featured a weekend down in the Black Forest.
-- Then the rest of September was quiet as hubby had foot surgery.
-- As soon as he was mobile again, I was off again to England and a week in Norfolk with Noonie...I was sick with a cold for a good part of it, but it was still relaxing and lovely company.
--October and November was just one concert after another, or at least it seemed like it with Madness, Ultravox, and Anne Clark.
--Thanksgiving was spent in Paris, and the Louvre is definitely one of my favourite places now. The last trip of the year was to the Cologne Christmas markets, and this time Noonie came to see me!

2013
This year will be even more full of travel than last, at least the first half of this year. So far on the schedule:
-- First week of February, a little over a week with Noonie. This time most of the time at CentreParcs in Longleat, but with a visit to the RSC in Stratford and to Cardiff.
-- Last week of February hubby works his last day and the next we are driving over to Brugge in Belgium and then to England to leave some stuff with my mum and bring some stuff back so that can be packed in with our household things.
-- Early March, we have tentatively schedules a trip to Athens, the situation in Greece and hubby's appointment schedule may dictate this being cut down or cut altogether.
-- Mid-March...we get tons of guests, namely the oldest boy and hubby's three sisters and we take them all down to Garmisch for the best part of a week. The following week youngest boy arrives and hopefully my mum as well for hubby's retirement ceremony. Have no idea where we're going to put all these people yet.
-- The week after that we pack out all our things and clean house to turn it back over to the landlord.
-- First week of April we head off to England, leaving Germany behind. We're planning to travel via Eurostar as we've never done the Channel Tunnel before.
-- Then a couple of days later, we head up to Scotland, where we'll spend a couple of weeks just travelling around there and the north of England.
-- After a week of staying with Mum, we head down to Southampton and board the Queen Mary 2 for our transatlantic crossing in style to New York.

-- Once we get to New York and spend a couple of days sightseeing there, we stop by hubby's parents for just a couple of days before flying out to NorCal to see the oldest boy before he moves to Japan and pick up my beleaguered Mini from him.
--After a few more days visiting with friends in the area, we're driving north to Seattle and then east, taking a time and probably stopping to see every sight and tourist trap along the way. It will be well into June, probably by the time we get back to Pennsylvania.
--And then we start the serious business of looking for a house and jobs...hopefully finding something before hubby officially starts his retirement on 1 July.

Hopefully the rest of the year will be a matter of getting used to a whole new routine, but something that has a routine at least.

As always it's slow, but always fun. Most challenging is keeping the various timelines with Hsu straight as I have threads in the past, 'present', and various futures with him. As well as all the fun with [livejournal.com profile] moderate_mod where our pups drive us regularly crazy, I'm doing threads with a few other people, [livejournal.com profile] franzi1981, and [livejournal.com profile] fannyfae, and although it took us a while to get going on our storyline due to health issues, [livejournal.com profile] gmnoonie and I have Hsu and Noon getting to know each other (platonically!) and it's been going well since our time together in October.

Well, that's about it. Hoping to be more active and updating with stuff (HA!), at least the what's going on stuff even if fandom is pretty quiet for me and even if it's just a line or two. We'll see how that goes
