Amusing Observation...
Okay, so I've been around on the Internet for thirteen years now. Most of that has been in fandom circles. And in that time I've seen lots and lots of wankstorms of one variety or another, some of which I've had the misfortune to be involved in. In fact, one of the first non-fandom forums I lurked on was one massive wank quickly followed by another, and then there were places on the old usenet newgroups, like the Big List in HL fandom and later places like Yahoogroups. It was scary just posting on these places for fear of getting ripped to shreds for a misplaced comma, let alone someone disagreeing with content.
Then onto LJ where there are those wank magnets like BRPS and Fanficrants (and others, but I can only take so much), and of course, the various fights, friendship breakups, and grudgewanks there have been in RPland, some of which I have been involved in, rightly or wrongly.
Throughout all this, I've developed a thick skin and cynical outlook to most of these wanks...most of them boil down to the same old arguments in the long run, and yes, that cynical side of me gets amused when I see a post on, say BRPS, explode into the 100+ comments. I lurk and get brief entertainment from seeing people sniping at each other. Sometime the flounces are epic.
All this brings me to this one forum I've recently been watching. It's one for people based here to ask questions, etc. Well last week one thread exploded as people argued and insulted each other over one topic...the topic? Should the base celebrate Halloween on the 30th (a Saturday) or the 31at...because 8pm is too late to have the kiddies out on a school night? OMG! You would have thought the world would end if it happened one day and not the other (for the record, I personally don't give a shit...my kid is too old to go trick and treating, and I can't be bothered).
Then yesterday, the forum exploded again as one woman (a very Christian woman, according to her FB profile) complained that her next door neighbour was parking in front of her base house. Now, she's free to vent there (even though she was later proved to be in the wrong), but her next door neighbour is also on that forum...and replied to her, politely, stating his side of the story. She replied insulting his wife (calling her a lying, gossiping bitch) and basically telling him to GTFO. When he takes issue with this, he asks her to apologize, bringing in his friend to defend his wife, too. Christian lady's husband comes in with the "how dare you upset my wife, you horrible people" comment. It spreads to FB....where even now, this lady is still playing the poor me, no one understands how mean the people are to me.
If it was fandom based, it would have all the ingredients for a good Fandom Wank post!
And the best of all? These people live NEXT DOOR to each other. Arguing on the Internet...so much better than stepping next door and working it out.
I don't really know what my point is here except....SO BLOODY AMUSED!

One, reminding me you've been online longer than I have. Okay, maybe it's only by a year or so, but still.
Two, reminding me that "most of them boil down to the same old arguments in the long run."
Three, reminding me how some people will say and do so much more crap online than they would ever do face to face.
Thank you.

Yeah, it was definitely a case of 'seen it all before'...it was wank over such minor things (that could easily be resolved if they had just, yanno, stepped outside)...almost cute, like baby taking their first wanking steps...including the butthurt when they get toppled over.
