30 Days of Meme -- Day 04

Day 04. Your favorite show ever

Tough question. One show that will always be dear in my heart is Blakes 7; it was, really, my first fandom...even before I knew what fandom was. I wrote fanfic for it and with my friend [livejournal.com profile] gmnoonie fangirled discussed every episode. Yes, it had hokey special effects, wobbly sets, often dubious acting, and a budget of 5.49 GBP, but the storylines and writing were wonderful. And Avon was my first fannish crush.

However, when it comes down to it, my favourite show ever, has to be Highlander: The Series. I loved the original movie (and the less said about the subsequent ones the better), but it was with the series that I really became hooked into it and the fandom, despite the fact that I never had any great liking for Duncan MacLeod. The entire mythology of the show, as well as the history elements, have long inspired me, and now...more than, what?, twelve years since it ended, it is still my primary fandom. I RP OCs that have grown and grown well beyond what I could have hoped from them. It's just stuck with me, and I still love it.

*whispers* I'm not the hugest fan of Duncan myself. I always had a soft spot for the shades of gray to the downright black-hearted fellows.

Hehehe, aside from the whole mythology/history of it, the ambiguous and evil Immortals (or redeemed in Darius' case *g*) have always been my favourites...going right back to the Kurgan, and you know, especially the Horsemen. Far more interesting.

[identity profile] luscious-words.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The redeemed Darius is made all the more intriguing by his redemption, but I'll admit I need to re-watch him because it's been soooooo long.

And well, I'm not called the Horsemen Whore by a few folks for nothing. Some people don't see Duncan as very black and white, but I do. Whereas, Methos is all about the shades of gray. The other three horsemen, well, they're just deliciously dastardly evil bastards. Not that I'm a fangirl or anything. ;)

It was the first episode with Darius that really got me hooked, up till then it had just been okay. But the whole redemption thing, plus another great baddie like Grayson...it was Duncan who?

Back when HL fandom was active, I went by the nick, K'Immielvr for my love of all the evil Immies. The Horsemen were the ultimate in evil bastards...a group of us even had our own forum, the BABEs (Bronze Age Bunch Entourage). Ahhh...good times.

Iz sad I can't use my HL icons. :(

HEEEEE! You had a website, didn't you? I dearly loved seeing all the bad boys together!!!!! :D

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, so I'm quietly squeeing that someone remembers that! Yes, I did...a labout of love! *g*

[identity profile] luscious-words.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only do I remember it, but that's the site that started me using the term K'Immies for the bad guys. Plus, I frequented it regularly because you had pics of the guys when there were so few available. *SQUEEEEEES* It was a fantastic labour of love and you have no idea how much I adored you for it and now I can adore you even more. *G*

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
*blushes* Oh thank you!! *hugs* Yes, it was a labour of love as the K'immies never got enough...and were always misunderstood. LOL! I know the term K'immies was used on the old Rysher forum, but don't know if it started there...just so many of their names started with 'K'.

Btw...love that Kronos icon!

[identity profile] luscious-words.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I was never active in the HL fandom until much more recently, and even now I'm more of a lurker than an active participant. However, I thought the term K'immie was brilliant and it worked because of the high number of 'K' names. :)

Thanks! As I've become more adept at working with PS, I've been making more and more icons and entering challenges. That Kronos one is due to my love of the face paint, plus finding a bunch of new kick-ass fonts. :D

...plus another great baddie like Grayson...

*Whistles softly.* There's a blast from the past. I checked on when "Methos" originally aired to be sure of when the 15th anniversary of my being in love with Peter Wingfield and Methos was this year. It was March 11th. I haven't thought to check on "Band of Brothers", and I was one of Grayson's Guardian Angels once upon a time. *Goes and checks.* It was the 17th anniversary for James Horan, Grayson and me February 13th. Talk about making me feel old.

...a group of us even had our own forum, the BABEs (Bronze Age Bunch Entourage)...

*Nods.* The website died with GeoCities, but the company that hosts the actual forum hadn't shut it down the last time I looked. I haven't got the link on this machine to check on it. Still, I haven't forgotten those times. ;)

Remember that time we made fancy dress for a competition... I think I might have photos somewhere, I'm sure my dad does...

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't that some village fete or something? And if your dad has photos that would be scary....er, I mean great! *g*

Eaton Bray infant school summer fete... I think you were Travis and I was a character out of the Blakes 7 magazine.

[identity profile] simplyjaye.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's it! Yes, I was Travis, with itchy eye-patch and all. Good times!

...it was, really, my first fandom...even before I knew what fandom was.

It's hard for me to say what my first fandom was because of my having grown up not only with some sense of what fandom was, but with my parents being into a number of fandoms. It likely was a cartoon, a comic book, or Doctor Who. I joined the Voltron Fan Club when I was 9, saw the Doctor Who U.S. Tour when I was 11 and the first convention I went to was a comic book one when I was 11.

It's just stuck with me, and I still love it.

I was just as excited seeing Peter Wingfield at Torchsong in '09 as I was seeing him at Legacy in '00. The difference was it was my third time, and I was coherent enough to finally ask him for the hug I'd been wanting from him all those years.

Yeah, I had never known fandom, and it was still way before personal computers and internet.

Hehehe....ah, Legacy...fond memories. And I remember that...I'm so glad you finally got a hug from him!!

Yeah, I had never known fandom, and it was still way before personal computers and internet.

I can never remember when people count the internet as having started. It might have been pre-internet for me, but it wouldn't have been pre-PC. If I was 9 or 11 when I got into a fandom for myself instead of simply being in one of my parents, we already had a PC.

I'm so glad you finally got a hug from him!!

Thanks! When he gave it to me he told me, "You take that home to Maine with you." I'd given him the Maine moose I'd brought for John Barrowman, since he was there and John wasn't. I brought one for John and one for Gareth. You can see the moose in Gareth's pocket in this icon. *Points up.* I got hugs from Peter and Gareth at the "cocktails with the guests" Friday night. I remember telling Fleta after that I could die happy right there. I didn't even need to see the rest of the con. I still haven't gotten to meet John, but I have gotten hugs from James at Legacy, and Peter and Gareth at Torchsong. :D
