Movie: Ghajini
So I finally got around to watching Ghajini. It's my first non-Hrithik Bollywood film, and it was excellent. It is a remake of a Tamil film of the same name, and based on "Memento."
Sanjay Singhania (Aamir Khan) has, due to blunt force trauma, short term memory loss and can remember things for only fifteen minutes. He leaves notes all about his apartment to help him remember things, tattoos notes on himself, and carries a Polaroid camera which beeps every fifteen minutes so he can take a photo so he knows where he is. In this way he is tracking down the man who murdered his girlfriend, Kalpana, a the titular Ghajini. In flashbacks we learn who Sanjay was and how he met Kalpana.
There are a few plotholes in the film, namely the police officer stopping to read Sanjay's diary without calling for backup to come and arrest Sanjay, when he's only unconscious, loosely tied up, and evidence of several murders all around the apartment. Frankly, the cop deserved what he got. There were other parts were suspension of disbelief got stretched pretty thin (he writes his diary in Hindu, but tattoos himself in English?), but in all, it was very well done and the kept up the pace so it didn't feel as long as it was. It's also very violent, brutally so, but it was central to the plot rather than just mindless.
Aamir was exceptional as Sanjay, although CEO Sanjay was so cute, I liked memory-loss Sanjay better, because he was just so intense, unstoppable, not to mention HAWT! The only thing that could have been toned down was his rage, just too animalistic and over the top. Otherwise, brilliant. I wouldn't say that Aamir comes close to the hotness of Hrithik (sorry Layla!), he's just too short for me...it wouldn't usually matter, but throughout the movie I couldn't help thinking, god he's short. *g*

The English/Hindi thing could be explained a little bit by the common usage of English phrases, although to have him tattoo in Hinglish would have been best. :)
I liked both Sanjays, and it took me a bit to realize why they went so over the top with the animalistic rage. He's so incredibly frustrated that all of his life is lived via pictures taken within 15-minute spans of time and the only thing he can truly remember is the loss of the love of his life. It's over-the-top a little, but it does fit how Aamir portrays his characters.
Physically, Aamir may not be as pretty as Hrithik, but I will admit that I am swayed by his ability to sink his teeth into his roles and become the character rather than just act it. (Lagaan and Fanaa are two good examples of that, as well.) Plus, shirtless Aamir in Lagaan won me over, and I honestly didn't notice his height until after I learned what it was. ;)
I'm glad you liked the movie, plot holes and all. :)

We soooooo need to remedy that. I'm thinking you should see Don with Shahrukh Khan and Bluffmaster with Abhishek Bachchan. I'll stop there before I give you too many. ;)

Yes, the tattoos especially should have had a mix of the languages. You see, I get that he's so terribly frustrated, angry and all the rest, but a couple of times (when he woke up, and when he was chasing Ghajini) that it was a bit too much for me. Guess, I'm more of a less is more person...and really that was my only little quibble with the film. Aside from that I thought Aamir was brilliant, and I did like the different ways he portrayed the two Sanjays.
I did, and I didn't mind the plot holes...unlike some Hollywood films, they were enough to throw me out of it.
I still have your list mem'd *g* But they are added (especially the Abhishek one :D). And I'll get to them, although my next one is a Kazakh/Russian film!

LOL, I'll warn you about some of the Bollywood movies feature lots of over-the-top dramatics like that. It varies from role to role and type of film. And there are times when there are plot holes big enough to drive semis through. *snicker*
Oooh, fun with more movies.
