Taken from Manda

Inspired by listing Manda's top albums, I've decided to make my own list. I have very eclectic music tastes with only a couple of genres I really can't stand, but I am a child of the 80s (and late 70s) mostly, and so with one or two possible exceptions, here are my top ten uhm eleven pop/rock albums. Completely arbitary, and even not necessarily commercially or critically the best...and in no particular order.

One Step Beyond -- Madness
Hard to pick one Madness album, but this is the first, best, and the one with the most SKA...but still having that nuttiest sound around.

Regatta de Blanc -- The Police
Hard to decide between this and Synchronicity, but I feel that this had the real feel of this being something quite different.

War - U2
U2's first album to make the top twenty, but before they hit real commercial success and sold out. With songs like New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday, it can't go wrong.

Meat is Murder -- The Smiths
Not really a big The Smiths fan, but this is one of the influential albums of the 80s. Always socially conscious group (even getting wanky about it), but great sound.

The Fine Art of Surfacing -- The Boomtown Rats
Okay, so there are some misses on this one, but it's worth if for "I Don't Like Mondays" alone.

London Calling -- The Clash
For the same reason as Manda stated...simply the best punk album of all time.

A Night at the Opera -- Queen
Simply terrific, 'nuff said.

A Kind of Magic -- Queen
The only band to make it twice on the list...but one of my all time favourites. It was these songs that hooked me into Highlander...how can it not be a favourite?

Ziggy Stardust -- David Bowie
Another that really needs no words. Bowie, who's always great, at his best.

Some Great Reward -- Depeche Mode
The album that marked Depeche Mode to be different from all the other New Wave/New Romantics. And the three single releases from it are still among my favourite songs. Still it was difficult choosing between this and "Violator", this getting the nudge for purely nostalgic reasons.

And lastly, but definitely not leastly...because I have to end this somewhere.

Vienna -- Ultravox
Featuring the title track, which is the best single never to make #1. I love every track...well, except for maybe "Astradyne"...it's the best album from my favourite band.
