Goodbye LJ

Well, I finally cut the last of my ties with Live Journal. Over the last month or so I've been deleting all my journals over there...and the last one I did, today, was Hsu's, notably on the 14th anniversary of creating his journal.

It feels strange to do so, even though I haven't done anything on LJ for years, but it is at the same time something of an end of an era. I created my own journal there back in 2002 and Hsu's in 2004 (despite the fact that I was determined when I joined TM that he would NOT get his own journal *g*). However, everything from my journals, including mine and Hsu's were imported from LJ several months ago, so all posts and comments that were in my journals are archived (alas, many things are lost from other deleted journals and comms that I would have liked to keep, but it was not to be).

And while I'm in a ranty mood

While I'm fully with the outrage and general WTF-ery regarding LJ's newest "brightest" idea about purging inactive accounts, I really don't get what this proposed plan of action is supposed to achieve:

[quoted from several posts I've seen] "I'm proposing Wednesday, July 21, as a Day of Silence. Midnight GMT to Midnight GMT. If you protest LJ's decision to silence inactive users, then go silent on Livejournal for a full day. Don't post, don't comment, don't send gifts or support their ads."

There are many days that I don't post or comment on LJ. I rarely send gifts and haven't for a long time. I never support their ads. So, I just act as normal, then...right? Great plan. Oh, and another thing, I'm going to probably be away all day that day, anyway...so yeah, I'm really protesting.
