My mum was visiting over Easter, and so we did quite a bit of travelling around the area in various day trips. Really, it didn't seem like we had a day at home the whole time.
We went to Monschau, which is a delightful little town right on the Belgium border between here and Aachen. I actually forgot to take my camera that day, but me and hubby had been up there back in December, so just imagine it sunnier.
On Easter Sunday we went to Brugge in Belgium, a popular medieval town with a small series of canals. We were only there for a few hours, but we could have stayed a couple of days as we didn't get to see nearly half of what was there. Plus they have loads of chocolatiers!! If we get to go again, we are definitely taking a carriage ride as we did the canal boat tour.
Another day we just drove around the local area. This is a nearby castle, Schloss Malberg with the village nestled in the valley.
And this is the village of Dudeldorf, which still has two medieval gates standing from when it was walled. On the inside of the gates are deep gauges which were made when American tanks rolled into the town during WWII.
Then there was our loooonnnnng day trip up to Keukenhof in the Netherlands. Dutch traffic is terrible! Each year Keukenhof is full of tulips, daffodils and other flowers, there's over 40 acres of flower beds (and a windmill), and it is just lovely.
There was a short trip to Vianden in Luxembourg, which is notable for the castle that sits up over the river Our. On the next hill is a chair lift that takes you over the town and up to give great views. You can walk from the station over to the castle, but it was still very steep, so we didn't.
I got around to watching "Fast Food" one of GB's early films. I have to say that it's one of those films that had GB not been in it, I wouldn't have bothered with it. It's not that it's a bad film, per se, just meh. It definitely has its moments, unsurprisingly for me those moments feature Gerry.
He plays a character called Jacko, who is one of a group of friends who do nothing but petty crime, drug dealing, eating fast food, and arguing about the royal family. They are joined by an old friend who moved away as a boy and is trying to revisit his life to find that it's not as good as he remembered. Jacko one of the smarter ones in the group, but probably the most psychotic. A pizza is delivered and it has pineapples on it, and Jacko verbally lashes out at the (immigrant) delivery man. Later the pizza man brings another pizza, and Jacko loses it when he sees it has anchovies on it in a scene that is quite violent and disturbing. Other bits include Jacko drinking heavily at a party and licking the armpit of some girl *g* and playing a video game in just his underwear!
There really was nothing about the other characters that engaged me to care about them, and really there's not much to care about Jacko either, 'cept that it's Gerry! Although Jacko's psychopathic tendencies did put me in mind of another of his characters, Jackie Jr. from "Shooters" and it was an interesting coincidence to note they both have the same name.
Anyway, I'll probably only watch it again to do a proper review and to get some screen caps...because Gerry in leopard print briefs deserve such treatment!
Finally, I've created a community
