Oct. 5th, 2003 08:31 pmMy mum is so good to me. Back when I was home, I asked her if she would go to the Collectormania weekend at the nearby Milton Keynes shopping mall and get a couple of autographs for me. I gave her 30UKP (they are 15UKP apiece) and instructions on who to get signed photos of.
Well today she and Keith went. Top of my list was Anthony Head, but even Mum is not that dedicated to my fannish obsessions to queue for 5 hours to see him (I'm not either!). So, she went to Number 2, who was Michael Keating (Vila from Blake's 7) and he didn't have much of a line at all. Then it was a 2 hour queue for Number 3 on my list...Lawrence (and I know I'm going to spell this wrong) Makaore, who plays Lurtz in FOTR. It's amazing that Mum had no idea who he (or Sala Baker - Sauron - who was next to him) were, but she was thoroughly smitten, I think by these two huge Maoris. She even had her photo taken with them. While she and Keith were in line, Elijah Wood walked right by her, she told me: "He had really short hair, but I still recognized him". I think the screaming fangirls trailing behind him, might have given her a clue.
I can't wait until I get the photos. And I'll turn her into a fannish person eventually...this is the second time she's queued for hours so I can vicariously 'meet' famous folk. First time was a couple of years ago, when she went to a Terry Pratchett booksigning. I think she queued for 3 hours in the freezing cold for that one. And she was really taken with him too!
