It's never easy to let your young ones go out into the world. It is especially hard for we mothers of sons, I think. Your nerves and excitement (and I bet, pride, too!) is completely understandable.

There is something so very, very special about that bond. Mine isn't going away for nearly as long and is not nearly as far away as yours is, and if I don't talk to him at least once every three days I get wierd! I cannot imagine what you must be going through.
