jayes_musings: (B7 -- Avon do I have to be sexy)
It seems that I do despite not posting to it (aside from icontests) for a loooooong time. So, although I'm not one for resolutions, I'm going to endeavour to try and update regularly, probably with mostly meaningless (to everyone else) stuff from my life.

I am debating with myself whether to mirror what I post here to my Dreamwidth Journal, but for the foreseeable future, I'm not leaving Live Journal. I'm still roleplaying, for those of you who might have thought I've fallen off the RP world, but most of it is now over at Insane Journal (100 free icons, FTW!), with some at DW and here at LJ, and I'm trying to get a couple of inactive pups active again...so we'll see how that goes.

Rambling, possibly quite boring summation of last year )

More rambling, just as boring list of what I'm looking forward to in 2012 )

It's going to be a busy year!

I've just gone through some of my old RP journals and deleted several that have been inactive for a long time or never had much in them. Some the muse is totally dead, and some will be active over on IJ...either in their own journal or under *empire_muses*

Donnie Yen

A lovely big article on Donnie Yen (my PB for [livejournal.com profile] hsus_snowman) in today's Stars & Stripes newspaper!!

Great to see him getting some recognition! And Snow is immensely pleased and chuffed *g*

Well, on the good news, I am really starting to get back into the flow of writing, both with rping and ficcing. Especially the fic-writing as I've missed doing prompts and other pieces.

On the bad news, I'm going to be away for a few days (Saturday thru Tuesday). I'm taking a family trip to Normandy. Hubby and son want to see the D-Day landing sites, etc. (and I'm sure certain muses of mine will be interested in that) and I'm looking forward to the much more historical places of Bayeaux, Barfleur, and Rouen.

So I'll see you on the other side of the weekend, and hope this doesn't interrupt my writing mojo too much (Please, I've just got you back!).

And for everyone who celebrates, have a happy Fourth!

ETA: And I've just had the idea that if anyone would like a postcard from my travels, feel free to leave your address if you don't think I have it (comments are screened), and I'll happily pop one in the mail. :D

As most of you know, I am moving back to Germany over the next month or so. What this means RP-wise is very limited availability to pretty much none during the actual move.

Tomorrow my husband comes back from where he was at for a year, and we are going to be busy getting the house ready as in getting our stuff ready to pack into three separate shipments and cleaning the house to hand back to the property management company.

The actual packing will be from March 19 through 25. At that point we will be staying in a hotel, which may or may not have wi-fi access.

From March 29 we will be flying to the east coast on leave and visiting my in-laws, and then we leave for Germany in mid-April.

From the time we get to the in-laws and however long it will be once we get to Germany when I can get reliable internet, it may be as late as early May before I'm online again. And even then I'll be busy with the unpacking.

So, most threads will be on hold...or very, very slow until May. I will try to get to some, but what those are will really depend on where my mood is.

As Manda posted earlier, she will be using my move to shift much of her writing over to other sites. I already have journals for some of my muses elsewhere, so when I am back with any regularity, expect me to shift a lot of my writing over there as well. I will still be on LJ, but on a much smaller basis. Like her, I am tired of all the negativity that exists on LJ and the fact that (again like Manda) I get the feeling from some quarters that I'm the one expected to entertain them, and they don't have to put in an effort. I like give and take in my RP, and right now, there's way to much taking by other people, and I am tired of it. I'm not a performing monkey.

So, I am going with Manda, and those few others, who I know what RPing is really about...a shared experience of creativity.

...because they keep seem to go splodey on me...?

Ah, it just must be smiting season again, that semi-annual time for Jaye to laugh at her muse...and for the muse to hate her! LOL

Who really feels sorry for Hsu!?
jayes_musings: (Holiday pudding)
Well, it's still crazy holiday busy around here, but it has calmed down a little with the hubby on his way back to the desert...having had a mini-holiday celebrations before he left. So even with the craziness, I will be able to spend a bit more time catching up on things with the muses, but I do still have a housefull with eldest home and his girlfriend here as well.

I'd just like to say to everyone on the flist...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
jayes_musings: (Da muses)
Well, at least the notifs are beginning to dribble in.

The next couple of weeks are going to be busy, even on top of the usual holiday busy-ness. The hubby will be home on Saturday until the 23rd, so I'll be spending time with him as we haven't seen each other since early August (and then we didn't get much alone time *g*). He's home on work related stuff, so next week he'll be working, and I'll really only be around during the day. After that my son will be home on leave through the new year.

After that things will really be picking up on the moving front too!

So, I'm going to be pulling back on my RP. I'll still carry on with the majority of the threads/plots that I have as well as a few posts that I've had planned for a while, but expect me to be even slower. If things are still too much, don't be surprised if I pull back even more.
jayes_musings: (Military -- Dragon Lady)
Just a heads up to folks, although those I write with most already know. I'm going to be out of town from Wednesday through to Sunday for my son's graduation from Basic Military Training. I'll be taking the laptop with me, but for the most part I won't be around to really get to tags or anything. I'm not even sure if the hotel has free wi-fi.

I'll be back sometime Sunday evening, so I probably won't really be around until Monday.
jayes_musings: (OMFG)
Or I mostly think so! I know I have some posts to make for muses, but I have no tags in my inbox! That is such a good sight that I shall enjoy it for as long as it lasts!

If I've missed a rep it's because either LJ screwed up with the notifs or I screwed up and accidentally archived the notif (which has happened in the past). Let me know here.

Posts that I need to make:

Cas, Stelios, Alexa & Tea dealing with Belit
Mark, Alexa, & Kelly meeting up
Danny & Justine
Hsu telling Danny Cody's alive.

I'll get to most of these tonight/tomorrow. If there are any other posts I need to make, let me know here again. Brain like a sieve!

But EMPTY INBOX!!!

The hubby sent me this:

There is an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's term was "Political Correctness."

The winner wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Also a quick apology to those I write with for not being around to hit tags the past couple of days...RL unexpectedly got the better of me, but hopefully this weekend I can catch back up. *hugs*

x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] civ_barbarian

First I want to apologize to all those reps I haven't managed to get to in a while. RL has been busy and my writing mojo's been a little off as it is. And it's going to get worse.

Next week, I'm flying home to England for a month to visit family, visit places, and generally have a good time. I will be taking my laptop, but while I might be able to sneak on and do a few reps, especially in the first week, I'll be very slow, so I wouldn't count on anything really (and if I do, treat it like a great surprise! *g*). I may have more luck with short, meta type threads as they don't require as much to get in the mindset.

That said, this week will be slow as well, as my focus will be making sure I've got everything done I need to get done before I leave. That, and worrying about my 20 year old, who will be house sitting while I'm gone. What tags I want to get to this week, and are the priority, will be focused on the two main SLs: Danny's wedding and Hsu's sickness, plus Mark and Alexa's current problem. As I really want them to get to certain points before I leave them for a month.

I apologize to all those I have threads with that are currently dangling, and I promise I will get to them once I have time again.

*hugs and love to you all*

jayes_musings: (Da muses)
Over the past few weeks, or even maybe longer, I've slipped away from the little schedule I posted here of letting a muse reply and do prompts on a certain day. Now, I feel totally disorganized and unfocused, and I can't seem to get anything done. Plus now I have a new muse who I need to include. It's also the start of summer break next week, so I'll be busy with trying to entertain a 15 year old and running him here, there, and everywhere. Later on in the summer (mid-July to mid-August) I'm flying home for a visit to England, and while Attila *pets laptop* is coming with me, I really will be too busy to get much done, especially when hubby joins me for the last two weeks. *g*

I have a new muse. He's actually been making rumblings of joining the headspace for a little while nowm, but I've managed to ignore it. However, this weekend I knew I was weakening as I began to think of possible usernames for him (always a bad sign). Then, this morning as I was on the treadmill at the gym, he starts talking, not about anything in particular, but just basically letting me know that he was there and would be listened to.

Thing is, even with all the cramped room in my muse-space, I was thinking about taking another on, but I was really, REALLY hoping for a female. The testosterone is getting too much! But no. It would have also been nice to have a friendly, nice, civilized, and non-egotistical muse join me (although I do think the others scare that type away!). But no.

What do I get instead?

[livejournal.com profile] khan_of_wolves

Yep. Genghis bloody Khan!!

Hsu, Attila, and now Genghis. Barbarian hordes, FTW!! *headdesk*

I watched Gordon Ramsey's F Word as they had a piece on...horse's milk.

It is gaining popularity in some European countries, and Gordon test marketed it in a supermarket and his restaurant. It, apparently, tastes like skimmed milk (i.e. kind of tasteless) and has less than half the fat of cow's milk. He also made a rice pudding with horse's milk, which his customers found nice and rich, almost custardy.

He didn't, however, try...or even mention...Hsu's favourite drink 'koumiss'...or fermented mare's milk. *g* Hsu is pleased, though, that the benefits of something he has known for a long time is getting some deserved attention. *lol*
jayes_musings: (Da muses)
First the mish mash.

I spent a very enjoyable day doing something I hadn't done in a long time, and that was to make an RP date. Manda and I threaded quite a bit between Danny and Cody and their little hook up after Hsu's ruling on Boukun, which is quite intense, and a lot of fun. I had to lock Mr. Grumpy Pants away to stop him bitching.

In between tags, I started work on making my first mood theme. This one for Danny (and Altaaf, if I ever get him a paid account). I think I got the hardest part done, looking for the right pics...although really how hard is it looking at pics of Hrithik? And I haven't even capped Jodhaa Akbar yet! Now just to size, crop and load. After that I just have Hsu, Mark, Stelios, Azazeal, and Ath to go. *sigh*

Did find a very cute pic of Hrithik from his first movie...I'll load it later as it's back on the other puter.

Now for Jodhaa Akbar

I've had this movie since September, and I never got around to watching it. It was worth the wait! Yes, I loved it! Not only for Hrithik and Ash, but the sets and costumes were just beautiful. It is a visually stunning film, with so much detail paid down to the smallest piece of jewelry. I don't know much about that period of the Mughal Empire, other than very basic facts (but it's prompted me to buy a book on Indian history to learn more), so I can't say how historically accurate it is, but I would guess it probably butchered history no worse than the standard Hollywood period film.

Hrithik, as the Mughal Emperor Jalaluddin Muhammed Akbar, was perfect as he can pull off the bearing of a mighty king...and I could picture Hsu in his place in parts (not all as it is a romance story *g*). One scene, he executes his brother by having him thrown from the fortress wall...head first. When he is told his brother survived, he orders him be brought up and thrown off again. Also the elephant taming rocked! Aishwarya plays his Hindi princess bride, Jodhaa Bai who must find her place in the Muslim court while making Akbar work to win her heart and so the people of Hindustan. And she is just so completely beautiful, she is my #1 girl crush right now without a doubt.

There are few songs, considering the length of the movie, and only two dance numbers. One a group of Sufis celebrate their wedding, and another huge piece in praise of the achievements of the Emperor. Only one complaint is the overuse of the 'dramatic chords' at every so-called dramatic moment -- so called because some weren't. It was very cheesy and annoying.

In the deleted scenes they had two wonderful ones with Mahesh Das (Idrajit Sarkar), who through his wit and wiles becomes a Birbal of the Mughal court. They should have kept those scenes in as he was just brilliant as he outwitted Akbar, a vizier (?) and a guard.

First off, I have the day off today, but I won't be around much as hubby has the day off, and I've also got to run down to Sac. So apologies to those I owe tags...I know I'm way behind, but I'll try and catch up a little in the next couple of days...though Thursday and Friday are going to suck too as I'm working all day then.

Now, to the nuttiest sound around, and one of my favouritest....

....Madness and "Night Boat to Cairo"

jayes_musings: (Damn fine year)
Me and the hubby are going up the hill to Reno for the weekend. Indulging in some 80's nostalgia by going to see The Fixx, The Alarm, and the [English] Beat.

So, whereas tags from me on weekends are sporadic and/or rare...they'll be pretty much non existant.
